Dongwhi Kim, Senior Product Manager at Kriya Payments, reflects on his typical week and life at Kriya

Dongwhi Kim, Senior Product Manager at Kriya Payments,

Dongwhi Kim is a Senior Product Manager, leading on building embedded finance solutions for Kriya Payments’ squad. We recently caught up with Dongwhi to chat about a typical week working within the product team, exciting new projects he is focusing on and general life at Kriya.

The Senior Product Manager role at Kriya

Within my position, I am responsible for building and implementing new product features for Kriya Payments. My role is incredibly varied and I am leading a range of product management solutions across user feedback testing, strategy, customer discovery, key performance indicators and new feature improvements.

Kriya Payments Squad

Kriya is composed of two cross-functional squads – Payments and Lending, working together to provide customers with frictionless finance through our embedded finance solutions across one seamless platform.

Each cross functional squad is led by a General Manager working closely with a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager who collaborate to prioritise and implement product features as part of our roadmap. The Product team works in sprints and partners closely with the wider cross-functional squad.

What a typical week looks like

My squad starts every morning with a stand up, to discuss progress on ongoing projects, any new developments that may have arisen and to refine any tickets. I also try to attend industry events and conferences to ensure I keep up to date with the latest trends and practices in product management.

On Monday morning, we start the week with a team meeting to ensure everyone is aligned on the goals and priorities for the week ahead. We also review and analyse user feedback provided from our clients, to identify areas of the product solution that need improvements.

I’m in the office on Tuesday, so I tend to book the majority of my meetings in person to ensure there is a collaborative environment. We also have our Payment cross-functional Squad  meeting where everyone in the squad across Sales, Marketing, Risk, Ops, Data Science and Engineering come together to track progress and update the team on latest developments. We also conduct retrospectives with the team to evaluate the past week and identify opportunities for improvement. And it’s a great time to catch up with employees in other areas across the business for our weekly company lunch!

On Wednesday, I tend to work from home, so I always book out an hour or two in the morning to solidly focus on some long-term projects like competitor analysis or product strategy. The rest of the day is usually focused on conducting user and client interviews.

The team tends to meet again in the office on Thursday for our company Townhall and to catch up with the squad leads. It’s a great opportunity to gain a stronger understanding of developments across new business projects and how I can support and make an impact.

For the rest of the week, I am reviewing and analysing user feedback and support tickets to identify and prioritise bug fixes and feature improvements. I also look to identify areas of improvement by assessing key performance indicators across our products, user adoption, retention, and trading volume.

What’s unique about working within the Product team at Kriya:

One of the most unique aspects about the Product team a Kriya is that it’s working at a start-up within a scale-up on an industry-leading product. I feel impactful within my role and have a wealth of responsibilities working with senior stakeholders on multiple projects across the business.

What tools do you rely on to organise your work?

Slack, Confluence, Jira, G-suite, Zoom and occasionally my brain!

What do you enjoy the most about working at Kriya?

One of my favourite aspects about working at Kriya, is the collaboration and partnership with our dedicated engineering team on product delivery and strategy. And I have the opportunity to work closely with our senior leadership team including our CEO, CTO and General Managers across the business.
